WHO Reports 85% Rise in Dengue Fever Cases in Afghanistan
The World Health Organization has reported an 85.5% increase in suspected dengue fever cases in Afghanistan.
In its latest report, the WHO said that the number of cases of several communicable diseases in Afghanistan rose last month, with suspected dengue cases increasing by 85.5%.
On Thursday, 5 Sunbula, the agency said in a report on Afghanistan’s health situation that cases of acute watery diarrhoea, acute respiratory infection, dengue fever, measles, COVID-19 and Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever had been identified in different parts of the country.
According to the report, last month cases of acute watery diarrhoea increased by 31.6%, acute respiratory infection by 18.9%, measles by 6.1% and COVID-19 by 79.3%. The World Health Organization also said that Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever cases had been recorded in Afghanistan, but no percentage details were given in the published text.
The World Health Organization is the United Nations specialised agency for public health and regularly monitors the disease and health-service situation in countries, including Afghanistan.
