Zelensky Warns Wartime Elections Would Be Dangerous for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said holding elections during the war under current conditions would be “very dangerous” for Ukraine and could fuel instability in the country.

According to Agence France-Presse, the remarks came after Ukraine’s former defence minister called for a vote to be held. In comments published on Sunday, Zelensky warned that elections in wartime could have serious consequences for his country.

“I believe that in a war like this, elections in this form are a big risk,” he said. Zelensky also added: “Elections right now are a tsunami that will split Ukraine apart.”

Ukraine has been under martial law since Russia’s full-scale invasion, a situation that has made decisions on the country’s political and electoral processes especially difficult.
