Taliban Authorities Detain Second Suspect in Assassination of Badakhshan’s Intelligence and Culture Head

Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban police in Badakhshan, announced the arrest of the second individual involved in the attack that led to the death of the head of intelligence and culture of the department. The suspect is currently in custody.

The attack took place on the morning of Tuesday, July 28, along the Baharak–Faizabad route in the Kuldasht area near the city of Baharak. In this incident, Zabihullah Amiri, head of intelligence and culture of the Taliban administration in Badakhshan, was shot by two motorcyclists and lost his life.

According to Kamgar, the arrest is part of ongoing security efforts to curb threats in Badakhshan province. Nevertheless, such an attack against a local Taliban official has once again raised concerns about the security situation in the region.
