Death Toll from Venezuela Earthquakes Surpasses 5,200

News sources have reported that the death toll from two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to over 5,200, with search operations for missing persons ongoing.

Yesterday, Jorge Rodríguez, the president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, announced that the casualties from the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes on June 24 had reached 5,119. He stated that the death toll has increased by 50, while the official number of injured has remained unchanged for over a week at 16,740.

Following this disaster, rescue teams in the affected areas are actively searching for possible survivors trapped under the rubble. Concerns about a further rise in casualties persist.

The United Nations Development Programme earlier estimated the direct damages of these earthquakes at approximately $6.7 billion. These earthquakes are among the deadliest natural disasters in recent years in Venezuela.
