Taliban’s Disaster Preparedness Office Emphasizes Expanding Volunteer Recruitment and Training
The General Director of the Taliban’s Disaster Preparedness Office has stressed the importance of strengthening the program for recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers in disaster management and has called on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to expand its cooperation in this area.
The press office of the department stated that Mullah Nooruddin Torabi, during a meeting with Ashraf, the head of IOM’s Risk Reduction Sector, described the role of volunteers as crucial in managing both natural and man-made disasters. According to him, the process of recruiting and equipping volunteers has been completed in most provinces, and it is necessary to effectively utilize the allocated budget to enhance this process.
He also highlighted the close connection between the department and the residents of various regions, emphasizing coordination and consultation with the Disaster Preparedness Office during the implementation of related projects to ensure that programs are based on the real needs of the people.
Meanwhile, the head of IOM’s Risk Reduction Sector announced the continuation of cooperation with the office, stating that as a pilot initiative, a program for recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers has been launched in Kabul, Kandahar, and Balkh provinces.
Under this program, 90 committees consisting of six to seven members each will be established at the village level in each province, and after receiving the necessary training, members will be provided with the required equipment.
At the end of the meeting, the General Director of the Disaster Preparedness Office reviewed the sample equipment intended for volunteers and stressed the provision of standard equipment suited to their operational needs.
