Taliban Agriculture Minister Emphasizes Expanding Agricultural Cooperation with India

Mawlawi Attaullah Omari, the Taliban administration’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, described the expansion of agricultural cooperation between Afghanistan and India as important during the “India-Afghanistan Trade Opportunities” meeting held in New Delhi. He stated that there are significant capacities to develop these sectors through joint collaboration.

According to Indian media reports, Omari said at the meeting that nearly 80 percent of Afghanistan’s population is engaged in agriculture and livestock sectors, and their livelihood depends on these sectors. He added that cooperation with India can provide the groundwork for the growth and strengthening of these areas.

The Taliban agriculture minister also described the warm reception of Indian officials during this visit as a positive step toward enhancing relations between Afghanistan and India and developing bilateral cooperation.

Economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and India have experienced ups and downs in recent years. Given the wide dependence of the country’s population on agriculture, many experts emphasize that any agreement and cooperation should lead to practical improvements in the conditions of farmers and livestock owners across different regions of the country—a goal that requires transparent planning and effective management by the Taliban administration.
