UN Identifies 425 Families for Permanent Housing in Northeast Afghanistan

The United Nations has announced that, under a development plan supported by the Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (STFA), 425 families have been identified to receive permanent housing in the northeast of the country.
The agency stated on Tuesday, July 7, in a report that the aim of this program is to create sustainable solutions for communities affected by displacement. According to the United Nations, this initiative started last year and focuses on supporting returnees, internally displaced persons, and host families.
According to released information, during the implementation of this program, 6,478 square meters of land contaminated with mines have also been cleared; an action that facilitates the safe use of land for housing and infrastructure projects. Additionally, 28 infrastructure projects have been prioritized within this plan.
The United Nations added that this program is being implemented in 69 settlements in the provinces of Kunduz and Baghlan. These two provinces are located in northeast Afghanistan and have witnessed extensive displacement in recent years due to insecurity and natural events.
The ultimate goal of this initiative is to improve vulnerable families’ access to adequate shelter, essential services, and economic opportunities—issues that have become serious challenges for thousands of residents in these areas in recent years.
