Taliban Interior Ministry Official Visits Kunar, Promises to Reactivate Police Radio

The General Directorate of Public Relations of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has announced that Mawlawi Abdul Haq Hemmat Akhundzada, the General Director of the department, led a delegation to Kunar province and announced readiness to reactivate the police radio in the province. According to the official, this initiative will be implemented in coordination with local authorities.

Based on the released information, during this visit, he met with Mawlawi Qudratullah Abuhamza, the governor of Kunar, Mawlawi Abdullah Haqqani, deputy governor, Mawlawi Ziaul Haq Hamid, police commander, Mawlawi Muhammad Amin Haqparast, governor’s office head, and Mawlawi Najibullah Hanif, head of information and culture of the province.

Also, in the presence of Samiullah Tron, head of the national radio and television in Kunar, a joint meeting was held with representatives of local, national, and international media. The General Director of Public Relations of the Ministry of Interior emphasized the important role of the media in public awareness, strengthening relations between institutions and the people, and fostering intellectual growth in society.

While these officials highlight the significance of media, in recent years, media activities in Afghanistan have faced wide-ranging restrictions, with journalists complaining about serious challenges regarding access to information and job security. Nevertheless, the police commander of Kunar pledged during the meeting to fully cooperate in supporting media activities across the province.

During the visit, under the direction of Sirajuddin Haqqani, acting Minister of Interior Affairs of the Taliban administration, stationery was distributed to 600 students at the central orphanage in Kunar province. Additionally, a number of educational awareness materials were handed over to local officials.
