Environmental Laboratory Management Plan Approved by Taliban’s Economic Commission

The Environmental Laboratory Services Management Plan of the General Directorate of Environmental Protection was approved at a technical committee meeting of the Taliban’s Economic Commission. The meeting took place on July 6, 2026, at the Marble Palace, where members discussed and evaluated the proposal before deeming it acceptable.
According to the information presented at the session, the plan aims to establish and activate a central, well-equipped, and standardized laboratory for testing and assessing the quality of air, soil, water, and noise pollution levels. The services of this center will be available not only to governmental departments but also to the private sector, international organizations, and universities.
The operation of such a laboratory in a country that has faced increasing pollution in certain urban areas in recent years could represent a significant technical step. However, experts have consistently emphasized that merely establishing structures is insufficient; transparency in publishing test results and free access to environmental information are essential conditions for public trust and genuine environmental protection.
The meeting also included discussions on several domestic standards set by the National Standards and Quality Directorate. Another key topic was enhancing the export of Afghan carpets to foreign markets.
