Lavrov Calls for Restoration of Free Navigation in Strait of Hormuz

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, expressed Moscow’s hope that negotiations between Tehran and Washington can restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to its pre-war status. He emphasized that stability in this strategic passage is of fundamental importance for global trade. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical energy transit routes in the world, connecting the Persian Gulf to open waters. Any tension there could have widespread economic and security consequences internationally. In another part of his remarks, Lavrov addressed developments in Palestine, stating that concerning trends are emerging which, in his view, aim to undermine the two-state solution and prevent the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He described this situation as being in conflict with United Nations resolutions. The Russian Foreign Minister also referred to what he called “neo-colonial policies,” stating that ending this approach could pave the way for the formation of a multipolar global order. He further added that NATO’s move toward increased militarization would ultimately be detrimental to the alliance.
