Taliban Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqub Visits 217 Omari Corps in Northeast Afghanistan

Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, the Defense Minister of the Taliban administration, visited the 217 Omari Corps in the northeastern zone of the country. During his visit, he held discussions with the commanders and several personnel of this corps.
According to a statement released by the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense, Mr. Mujahid met with Sharafuddin Taqi, the commander of the 217 Omari Corps, his deputy, brigade officials, and a number of troops. The meeting focused on reviewing the security, administrative, and military status of the corps, with reports provided by the officials.
The Ministry of Defense added that after hearing the reports, the Defense Minister issued instructions and recommendations aimed at improving administrative affairs, strengthening professional coordination, and effectively carrying out assigned duties.
The 217 Omari Corps is considered one of the key military units in the northeastern zone, a region of significant geographical and security importance to the Taliban administration. However, no further details about the practical outcomes of this visit or potential changes in the corps’ structure or operations have been released. Additionally, the Ministry did not comment on existing challenges in this area, raising ongoing questions about the level of transparency in managing the security sector under Taliban rule.
