Former Afghan National Cricket Player Shapoor Zadran Passes Away

The Afghanistan Cricket Board, currently operating under Taliban administration, announced on Tuesday, July 7, the death of Shapoor Zadran, a former player of the national cricket team. According to the statement, Mr. Zadran passed away after a period of eye illness.

Reportedly, he had been receiving treatment for some time at a hospital in India. No further details about the nature of his illness have been disclosed.

In its statement, the Afghanistan Cricket Board described Shapoor Zadran as one of the pioneers of modern cricket in the country, noting that his passion and efforts played a significant role in expanding the sport nationwide. Over the past two decades, cricket has become one of the most popular sports among Afghanistan’s youth.

Shapoor Zadran was born in 1987 in Paktia province in eastern Afghanistan. He was a member of the national team for more than ten years and played in over 80 international matches, including three editions of the ICC T20 World Cup, making him one of the influential figures of the team.
