Six Arrested for Vehicle Theft in Kabul, Taliban Police Recover Stolen Cars

The Taliban’s Kabul police command announced that six individuals have been arrested on charges of stealing 10 vehicles in the jurisdiction of Kabul’s Fifth Police District. According to the authorities, these suspects were identified and apprehended along with the stolen vehicles by forces from this district.

Habib-ur-Rahman Muneeb, the chief of the Fifth Police District under the Taliban administration, stated that one pistol, one wrench, and one notebook were also seized from the detainees. He added that the recovered vehicles were returned to their rightful owners.

The Kabul police command has also released a video on the social media platform X, in which some of the arrested individuals confess to the vehicle thefts. However, it remains unclear under what conditions these confessions were obtained and whether the accused had access to legal counsel and a transparent judicial process—issues that have consistently raised concerns among human rights organizations.

These arrests come amid growing complaints from residents of several provinces across the country about a rise in armed robberies and insecurity in urban areas over recent months. Reports of citizens being killed by armed thieves have also surfaced, heightening worries about the Taliban administration’s ability to ensure security and effectively manage criminal activities.
