28-Year-Old Man Drowns While Playing in River in Laghman Province

The Taliban’s security command in Laghman province has announced that a 28-year-old man drowned in a river while playing in the Ali Ngar district of the province. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, 13th Saratan, in the Barkhan Baba area.

Mohammad Younus Yousafzai, spokesperson for the Taliban security command in Laghman, stated that the incident happened around 4:30 pm. According to him, the young man was named Abdul Rahim and was a local resident.

Local officials reported that Abdul Rahim’s body was retrieved from the water by residents and then handed over to his family. He had gone to the area with several friends for recreation when the accident occurred during water play.

This solar year, similar cases of young people drowning in various provinces across the country have been reported. Experts attribute the main causes of the increase in such incidents to carelessness, lack of warning signs, and insufficient basic rescue and emergency facilities near rivers and water dams.

Despite the recurrence of such accidents, the Taliban administration has not yet implemented a comprehensive and specific program to establish rescue teams, install warning signs, or conduct public awareness campaigns in high-risk areas; an issue that has raised concerns among residents during the hot season.
