Media Support Organization Raises Alarm Over Health of Detained Afghan Editor Under Taliban Custody

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of Mohammad Rahmati, the managing editor of Tamadon, currently detained by the Taliban authorities. The organization has warned that the ongoing detention of a sick journalist contradicts the principles of media protection and could have severe consequences.
In a statement released early Friday, July 3, on the social media platform X, the organization emphasized that imprisoning a journalist while ill is a clearly inhumane act. According to the group, close contacts of Mohammad Rahmati have informed them that his health urgently requires immediate medical attention.
The Afghanistan Media Support Organization also condemned the detention of other journalists and media activists by the Taliban administration, stating that the continuation of such practices has expanded a climate of fear and censorship in the country. The group highlighted that these actions pose a serious threat to freedom of expression and the independent operation of media outlets.
The organization has called for clarity regarding the fate of Mohammad Rahmati and his colleague, demanding the unconditional release of all detained journalists—a demand that has become one of the primary calls of Afghanistan’s media community amid the current situation.
