UNICEF: Supporting Girls in Afghanistan Builds a Safer Future

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated that targeted support for girls in Afghanistan can provide them with a safer future. On Thursday, July 2, UNICEF emphasized on its X page that teaching skills such as sewing plays an important role in boosting girls’ self-confidence.

UNICEF added that, with support from the European Union delegation in Afghanistan, opportunities are being created to teach practical skills to girls. According to the organization, such programs can help enhance the individual and social empowerment of girls.

This comes amid widespread restrictions imposed on girls and women in Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power. These include bans on education beyond sixth grade and the closure of many workplaces, such as the prohibition of female-run beauty salons.

International organizations have repeatedly stressed that the continuation of these restrictions poses a serious threat to the future of the next generation of girls and hinders their active participation in society.
