UNDP Supports Afghan Farmer to Harvest Over One Ton of Borage

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan has announced support for a farmer in establishing a greenhouse farm under the ‘Afghanistan Community Resilience’ program, resulting in the harvest of more than one ton of borage.
On Tuesday, 9th Saratan (June 30), UNDP tweeted that Hamidullah, an Afghan farmer, was able to set up a standard greenhouse with this support, enabling him to generate a sustainable income for his family.
According to UNDP, the project was implemented with the support of the European Union delegation in Afghanistan. The objective of these programs is to strengthen local capacities and assist families in achieving sustainable income sources.
Afghanistan’s agricultural sector has suffered severe damage in recent years due to consecutive droughts, prolonged conflicts, and the continued use of traditional farming and harvesting methods. In such conditions, experts emphasize that expanding greenhouses and modern agricultural techniques can help alleviate production shortages and unemployment in rural areas.
However, farmers in many provinces still face challenges such as lack of technical support, limited market access, and the absence of coordinated agricultural programs; issues that require greater attention from responsible bodies, including the Taliban administration, to improve the livelihoods of rural residents.
