Fawzia Kofi: Bombing Villages Is Not a Solution to Terrorism

Fawzia Kofi, a former member of parliament, responded to recent Pakistani airstrikes in the provinces of Kunar, Paktia, and Paktika by emphasizing that bombing villages and killing civilians is not an effective strategy to combat terrorism. She stated that such attacks not only fail to solve the problem but also increase the suffering of the civilian population.

On the early morning of Tuesday, June 29, Kofi wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) page that so far, not a single Taliban leader or senior official has been targeted in these airstrikes. According to her, the ongoing killing of civilians cannot lead to the establishment of security.

The political figure added that if Pakistan’s objective is to suppress the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the locations where this group operates are well known to many residents of Afghanistan, and there is no need to bomb residential areas.

Two nights ago, locations in the provinces of Kunar, Paktia, and Paktika were targeted by Pakistani military airstrikes. According to statistics provided by the Taliban administration, these strikes resulted in the martyrdom of at least 36 people, including women and children, and left 163 others injured.

The increase in cross-border attacks comes amid repeated criticism from local residents about the lack of effective measures to protect civilians; an issue that once again raises questions about the Taliban administration’s responsibility in ensuring security and preventing civilian casualties.
