Taliban’s Amir Khan Muttaqi Meets UNAMA Deputy to Discuss Humanitarian Aid Coordination

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Bruno Lemarquis, the new Deputy Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the agency’s humanitarian coordinator. The main focus of the meeting was how to manage and improve the humanitarian aid process in the country.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the new UNAMA deputy shared his views on better structuring and more effective delivery of humanitarian aid, emphasizing the need for improved coordination among the involved organizations. Afghanistan has faced severe economic and humanitarian crises in recent years, and the distribution and oversight of aid have consistently been subjects of concern for international agencies.
During the meeting, Muttaqi stressed the continued importance of immediate humanitarian assistance and highlighted the significance of implementing development and infrastructure projects. He affirmed that the Taliban administration will maintain cooperation with the United Nations in these areas. However, some international organizations have previously underscored the necessity for transparency, unrestricted access, and the protection of aid workers within Afghanistan.
The Ministry added that Bruno Lemarquis expressed his gratitude to the Taliban foreign minister and pledged to spare no effort in fulfilling his responsibilities. He also emphasized expanding interaction and collaboration between UNAMA and the Taliban administration across various sectors.
