Iran Condemns US Attacks as Violation of War Termination Agreement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a statement declaring that the United States military’s airstrikes on several locations along Iran’s southern coast constitute a clear violation of the war termination memorandum of understanding and the principles of the United Nations Charter. The statement emphasized that these attacks took place on the evening of Friday, June 27, 2026, targeting Iran’s coastal surveillance facilities.

According to the statement, this action contradicts Article 2, Clause 4 of the United Nations Charter as well as the first clause of the war termination memorandum of understanding dated June 17, 2026. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also cited the simultaneous Israeli attack on Lebanon, which it stated was coordinated with the United States, as another breach of this understanding.

The statement further referenced Article 51 of the UN Charter, stressing Iran’s “inherent right to self-defense,” and asserted that Iran stands firm in defending its sovereignty and security. The Ministry declared that the defensive actions of Iran’s armed forces were carried out within this framework and that those responsible for the current situation are parties involved in these events.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran also called on the countries located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness and to refrain from allowing their territory or facilities to be used for actions against Iran.

In its closing remarks, the Ministry urged the United Nations Secretary-General, the Security Council, and other relevant international bodies not to remain indifferent to what it termed “a blatant violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter,” and to act within their responsibilities to maintain regional and international peace and security.
