Taliban Authorities Arrest 68 Individuals on Drug-Related Charges Across 12 Provinces

The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Narcotics Department announced that in recent days, 68 individuals have been arrested on charges of drug trafficking, usage, and sales in 12 provinces of the country. These arrests took place in Nangarhar, Jowzjan, Kandahar, Bamyan, Kunduz, Ghazni, Parwan, Laghman, Kunar, Farah, Nimroz, and Khost provinces.

According to the agency, authorities seized over 10 kilograms of hashish, more than four liters of alcoholic beverages, 800 grams of methamphetamine (crystal), over one kilogram of opium, and 1,950 narcotic pills from the detainees.

Officials stated that the arrested individuals are currently under supervision, and their cases have been handed over to relevant institutions to undergo legal proceedings. However, no details have been provided regarding the identities of those detained, how they accessed the narcotics, or any potential networks linked to these cases.

Afghanistan has continued to face extensive challenges related to drug production and trafficking in recent years. Despite the Taliban administration’s announcement banning the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics, various reports indicate that the issue has not been fully controlled and requires transparent and accountable measures at the national level.
