Iran’s Central Bank Chief Rejects Trump’s Claims on Use of Released Iranian Assets

Abdolnaser Hemmati, Governor of Iran’s Central Bank, has denied the narrative presented by US President Donald Trump regarding the use of Iran’s released assets. Hemmati stated that the signed agreements do not impose any obligation to purchase agricultural products from the United States.
According to Iran’s Mehr news agency citing Al Jazeera, Hemmati emphasized that in the agreements related to the frozen assets, there is no condition that restricts the use of these funds to buying specific goods from America. He explained that decisions on how to utilize these resources are based on Iran’s national interests.
The Central Bank chief added that if the price and quality of American agricultural products are more favorable compared to other options, there is no barrier to purchasing them; however, this is a commercial choice, not a binding commitment.
He also remarked that for another portion of these assets, Iran can use the second installment of the released funds to procure any non-sanctioned goods.
These comments came hours after US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s frozen assets, which are to be released, will be used solely to buy food products from American farmers. Trump also stated that Tehran should use its resources to supply food for its people.
