Afghanistan Media Support Organization Warns of New Threats to Journalists in Kabul

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has announced that some media outlets and their staff in Kabul are facing new security threats. The organization has called on the Taliban administration not to use media and journalists as tools in “regional conflicts” and to guarantee their safety.

On the early morning of Tuesday, June 22, AMSO released a statement on X emphasizing that journalists should not be forced to promote the interests of the Taliban administration or work against neighboring countries. The organization warned that such pressures severely undermine media independence.

The statement said, “Journalists who face threats must have the right to safety under all circumstances.” AMSO stressed that ensuring the physical and psychological security of journalists is the direct responsibility of the ruling authorities.

The organization also urged international bodies and media support institutions to increase their efforts and assistance to protect journalists working in Afghanistan. In recent years, restrictions and pressures on the media in the country have increased, and concerns about the future of freedom of expression remain persistent.
