Taliban Ministry Records Return of 2,579 Migrants in One Day

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Migrants and Returnees under the Taliban administration has announced that 2,579 returning migrants were registered at the country’s border crossings in the past 24 hours. Simultaneously, 4,116 individuals were transferred to various provinces. Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated that these individuals include 477 families who, after registration at the border points, received services such as transportation, cash assistance, healthcare, telecommunications, and permanent housing. According to Fetrat, registration and aid efforts continue at the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Pul-e-Abresham in Nimroz, and Islam Qala in Herat. Millions of Afghanis have been allocated for transportation fares and cash aid. Fetrat also added that in terms of permanent housing, land has been distributed to 862 returning migrant families across various provinces, with a total of 50,265 plots allocated. Despite these figures, further details regarding the funding sources, criteria for land distribution, and the sustainability of the services provided have not been disclosed. This lack of information remains a fundamental concern frequently raised by oversight bodies and returning families themselves.
