Three Water Supply Projects Launched in Jalalabad Schools to Improve Student Health

Three water supply, sanitation, and solar energy projects costing 5.6 million Afghanis have been completed and inaugurated in three schools in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province. Local officials say these projects were implemented to improve the health conditions of students and provide a better educational environment.

The head of the Nangarhar Economic Office’s media department told Bakhtar Agency that these projects were carried out over the past nine months through the efforts of the Economic Office, under the umbrella of the Education Directorate and in cooperation with a national humanitarian organization.

According to him, each school was equipped with a water reservoir, standard toilets, a wastewater disposal system, and solar power systems—facilities that are critically lacking in many schools across the country, especially in remote areas.

Mawlawi Jan Mohammad Hamid, head of Nangarhar’s Economic Office, described the inauguration of these projects as a step towards strengthening the education sector. Additionally, Mawlawi Liaqat Ali Abid, deputy teaching director of Nangarhar’s Education Directorate, said that with the completion of these projects, hundreds of students and teachers now have access to clean water and better sanitation facilities.

It is worth noting that providing safe water and standard toilets in schools is considered a fundamental need of the educational system—a matter that the residents of Nangarhar have consistently emphasized should be expanded to other schools under Taliban administration.
