Taliban Administration Urges Completion of Salang Highway Before Winter

Mullah Mohammad Isa Thani, acting Minister of Public Works of the Taliban administration, during a visit to the Salang Highway, has urged contracting companies to complete all planned works for the current year before the onset of winter to ensure safe and standard passage for the people.

According to a statement from the ministry, practical work is currently underway on the southern section of Salang, and machinery, equipment, and technical resources needed for the other two sections have been transferred to the area. The ministry’s acting minister has directed the heads of contracting companies to start work on these sections as soon as possible and complete it according to the established plan.

The Salang Highway is one of Afghanistan’s key transit routes, connecting the north and south of the country, and often faces serious challenges during winter due to heavy snowfall and road closures. Any delays in reconstructing this highway could cause widespread problems for residents and the transport of commercial goods.

The reconstruction of the Salang Highway is being implemented in three parts: northern Salang, southern Salang, and the Doshi-Khunjan route. According to the Taliban Ministry of Public Works, the works included in last year’s plan have been completed; however, citizens expect the project implementation process to be accompanied by greater transparency and effective oversight to prevent the recurrence of past problems.
