UNICEF and Gates Foundation Discuss Collaboration to Improve Child Health in Afghanistan

Tajuddin Owaywali, head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), announced that he held discussions with senior officials from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation regarding joint cooperation in Afghanistan. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page, he wrote that the meeting focused on strengthening health programs and supporting children in Afghanistan. According to him, increased coordination between the two organizations can help improve access to essential services for children and families. The UNICEF head also expressed gratitude for the Gates Foundation’s support in primary healthcare, nutrition, routine vaccination implementation, and efforts to eradicate polio. Polio, a contagious disease, remains a challenge in Afghanistan. As one of the key United Nations agencies dedicated to child support, UNICEF has in recent years concentrated on strengthening the healthcare system, expanding vaccination coverage, and reducing malnutrition across various regions of Afghanistan through partnerships with international organizations.
