Taliban’s Acting Defense Minister Emphasizes Strengthening Afghanistan’s Defense After Moscow Visit

Mawlavi Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, the acting Defense Minister of the Taliban administration, returned to Kabul today after participating in an international security conference hosted by Russia. He stated that the administration is keen on further enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.

At Kabul International Airport, in response to concerns from some countries regarding the signing of a cooperation agreement with Russia, he said the goal of these interactions is to increase defense capacities and ensure comprehensive security in Afghanistan.

Referring to the Pakistani attacks on some areas of Afghanistan a few months ago, Yaqub added, “As you saw, Pakistan boldly bombed certain areas; we are striving to ensure that no country dares to take such action in the near future.” These remarks come amid criticism questioning the Taliban administration’s ability to prevent cross-border attacks and provide sustainable security.

The acting Defense Minister identified strengthening defense capabilities and preserving national security as the administration’s main priorities. However, no clear details have yet been released regarding the nature of the potential cooperation with Russia or the framework of the agreements under discussion.

The Moscow Security Conference, attended by security and defense officials from various regional and global countries, focused on security cooperation and examining regional developments.
