Taliban Administration Struggles to Aid Flood Victims in Nuristan

Severe flooding in Nuristan province has resulted in at least 24 deaths and 85 injuries, causing extensive financial damage. In response, the Taliban administration has called on traders, investors, and citizens to collaborate in assisting the flood victims.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, announced on Thursday (July 23) that relevant departments began rescue efforts from the earliest hours of the incident and that aid operations are ongoing.

He added that among the deceased are the Taliban-appointed mayor of Parun city and the commander of the group for a battalion in Nuristan province.

Parun city, the capital of Nuristan, along with surrounding villages, experienced heavy rainfall and flooding on Monday afternoon this week. The Taliban governor’s office estimates the financial losses to be around 36 million dollars.

Nuristan, a mountainous province in eastern Afghanistan, has frequently suffered seasonal floods in recent years, resulting in casualties and extensive damage to local residents.
