Construction Begins on $150 Million Residential Complex in Balkh Province

The construction of a large residential complex worth $150 million has commenced in the center of Balkh province. At the inauguration ceremony of this project, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Economic Chief of the Prime Minister’s Office under the Taliban administration, along with several cabinet members, were present.
According to information provided at the event, this complex will be built in the central areas of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province. Balkh is considered one of the important provinces in northern Afghanistan, and Mazar-i-Sharif is a key city for trade and investment.
Taliban officials described this project as a step towards developing urban infrastructure and providing residential facilities. However, no details were given regarding the funding sources, contracting companies, or financial transparency mechanisms.
While the Taliban administration speaks about attracting investment in the housing sector, many citizens have consistently emphasized the need for transparency in contract procedures and ensuring fair access for residents to such projects—an issue that has become one of the serious demands in urban development in recent years.
