Taliban Administration Announces New Decisions on Aqina Railway Land Ownership

The Taliban administration announced that at the nineteenth meeting of the Council of Ministers, the issue of acquiring lands along the second phase of the Aqina-Andkhoy railway route and determining the prices of the lands related to this project were reviewed. The meeting was held on Tuesday (18 May) under the chairmanship of Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.
Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated that the meeting discussed the pricing of lands referred to as ’emirate’ lands and the methods for acquiring private lands along this route. The Aqina-Andkhoy railway is considered a major infrastructure project in northern Afghanistan, connecting Aqina in Faryab province to Andkhoy.
According to him, members of the Council of Ministers also discussed the process of distributing land to refugees who have returned to the country. However, no details were provided regarding the transparent mechanism of land distribution, the criteria for selecting beneficiaries, and how the rights of local residents will be ensured—an issue that has previously raised concerns among some refugees and local inhabitants in various areas.
Fetrat added that in this meeting, in addition to economic issues, security, social, and cultural topics were also discussed, and some other matters were resolved. So far, the Taliban administration has not released further details about the decisions made in these areas.
