1,220 Carats of Panjshir Emeralds Sold in Recent Auction Worth 2.6 Million Afghanis

Local officials in Panjshir province report that in the latest auction of emeralds, 1,220 carats of newly extracted precious stones were sold to domestic traders for 2.6 million Afghanis. Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the Panjshir governor under the Taliban administration, stated that these emeralds were sold in the presence of local traders after being extracted from the respective mines. According to him, the auction process was held to ensure transparency in sales and to create a competitive environment among buyers.
Panjshir emeralds are considered among the highest quality gemstones in the region, and the province’s mines are important sources of revenue. Local residents have long regarded the extraction and sale of these stones as one of their main sources of income.
The Panjshir governor’s spokesperson added that expanding mining activities in the province has played a significant role in strengthening the local economy and creating job opportunities for residents. However, experts consistently emphasize the need for transparent and accountable management in the mining sector to ensure that revenues are fairly invested in the development of mining areas and the improvement of livelihoods for the people.
