Taliban Official Meets Qatari Ambassador in Kabul to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

The Office of the Prime Minister of the Taliban administration announced that Mullah Abdul Wasi, head of the office, met with Morad bin Ali Al-Qahtani, Qatar’s ambassador to Afghanistan, at the Arg palace. The talks focused on expanding cooperation, development projects, and regional relations.
According to the released information, the Qatari ambassador described the relationship between Doha and Kabul as “historic and strong,” stating that he will strive to further develop these ties during his mission. He also referred to Qatar’s development projects and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, adding that his country intends to continue its cooperation in various sectors given the current security situation.
The Qatari ambassador emphasized the importance of positive relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan for the region’s economy, security, and stability. He noted that Doha is working to find suitable solutions to issues between the two countries. In recent years, Afghanistan and Pakistan have faced border and political tensions, affecting trade and the status of refugees.
Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Wasi described Afghanistan-Qatar relations as significant, noting that Qatar has worked over the past two decades as an Islamic country to help establish peace and stability in Afghanistan. He praised Qatar’s implemented projects and called for expanding cooperation between the two sides.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the Office of the Taliban Prime Minister stressed that the administration seeks positive relations with neighboring, regional, and global countries based on “mutual respect, Afghanistan’s national interests, and Sharia principles.” This comes despite the fact that no country has officially recognized the Taliban administration to date. Continued diplomatic engagement with regional countries is seen as part of the Taliban’s efforts to reduce Afghanistan’s political isolation.
