ISIS Khorasan Media Chief Sultan Aziz Azzam Released from Pakistani Prison

Media and security sources have reported that Sultan Aziz Azzam, the media chief of ISIS’s Khorasan branch, has been released from prison in Pakistan after a period of detention by the country’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Azzam is recognized as a key figure in the propaganda and psychological warfare efforts of ISIS Khorasan.

According to published reports, his arrest was part of a security-driven operation in Islamabad aimed at instrumentalizing this senior ISIS member and his network to advance covert security objectives and exert pressure on the Taliban administration. However, Pakistani officials have yet to publicly clarify the matter.

The timing of Azzam’s release coincides with rising border and diplomatic tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, heightening concerns about security along the two countries’ shared border. This region has experienced sporadic clashes and increasing mistrust between the parties in recent years.

Security analysts say the event underscores longstanding allegations of using extremist groups as tools to shift the balance of power within Afghanistan’s geography. Meanwhile, continued such developments risk reactivating suicide networks and terrorist attacks – responsibilities that fall directly on the Taliban to prevent. Any failure in this regard could have severe consequences for the country’s residents.
