UNESCO Expands Food Skills Training for Afghan Youth to Boost Food Security

UNESCO’s Afghanistan office has announced the continuation of its “SDL” program, focusing on teaching food processing skills and literacy to boys and young men. The program aims to enhance local food security and create sustainable livelihoods for participants in the future.
According to published information, the program seeks to equip participants with practical skills in food preparation and preservation—skills that can help establish small local businesses and improve the economic capacity of families.
UNESCO stated that the program is implemented with the support of the World Bank and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The collaboration among these organizations is part of broader international efforts to support education and improve livelihoods in Afghanistan.
In a context where many Afghan families face economic challenges and limited job opportunities, skill-building programs like this play a crucial role in strengthening local capacities and reducing reliance on short-term aid.
