UN World Food Programme Warns of Worsening Hunger Crisis in Afghanistan

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that food insecurity levels in Afghanistan have reached a “dangerous” stage, with millions of residents facing severe food shortages. The agency attributes the worsening situation to the closure of border crossings with Pakistan, natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes, and a decline in humanitarian aid.

According to WFP, rising fuel prices due to Middle East tensions and disruptions in supply routes have further complicated the delivery and distribution of aid. These factors have increased operational costs and made access to vulnerable areas more difficult.

The World Food Programme has requested an urgent $350 million in funding to continue its emergency activities over the next six months. The organization warns that without this funding, its capacity to assist needy families will be significantly reduced.

Meanwhile, humanitarian experts emphasize that effective crisis management, facilitating the work of aid agencies, and preventing administrative restrictions are fundamental responsibilities of the Taliban administration. They believe any obstacles imposed on humanitarian efforts could have direct consequences on the lives of the country’s poor and vulnerable populations.
