Afghanistan Signs $46 Million Contract to Build Advanced Laboratories in Kabul and Nine Ports

The Department of Norms and Standards has announced the signing of a contract worth over $46 million with the Indian international company TCRC to build and equip advanced laboratory complexes in Kabul and nine ports across the country. The contract is planned for a duration of five years and focuses on establishing standard laboratories.
According to provided information, these laboratories will be used to test the quality of building materials, electrical equipment, textiles, leather, and paper. The aim of this initiative is to better control the quality of imported goods and domestic production.
At the contract signing ceremony, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban administration, was also present. Officials from this administration stated that in addition to constructing laboratories, enhancing the professional skills of staff members will also be part of this program.
Additionally, the process of obtaining international ISO certifications will be implemented under this contract. However, the Taliban administration has so far not released further details about how monitoring, budget transparency, and standard compliance guarantees for this project will be managed—a matter that has consistently drawn attention and questions from citizens and experts regarding major economic projects.
