Taliban’s Ministry Approves 313 Books in Latest Evaluation Meeting

The Book Evaluation Commission at the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture, chaired by Mohajer Farahi, Deputy of Publishing Affairs, convened and approved 313 books under 142 different titles for printing and import.

According to published information, the session began with a report on the previous commission meeting, during which members reviewed past activities and achievements. Subsequently, decisions were made regarding a number of newly submitted books.

Officials stated that the approved works were those which, according to them, were written in accordance with “Islamic and Afghan values.” This comes amid ongoing extensive restrictions on the evaluation and licensing process for books under Taliban rule, with authors and publishers expressing concerns over the lack of transparent criteria and the possibility of censorship.

At the end of the meeting, 10 more books, which had been submitted for review, were distributed among the members for evaluation results to be presented at the next session. The current book licensing process is considered part of the Taliban administration’s broader control policies over cultural and publishing activities in the country.
