Pakistan Summons Taliban Embassy Head Following Deadly Attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it has summoned the acting head of the Taliban embassy in Islamabad following a deadly attack in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. In a statement released on Monday, the ministry said an official protest note was also handed to the Taliban representative regarding the incident.

According to Pakistani officials, this action came after a suicide car bombing targeted a security forces checkpoint in the Bannu area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 9, 2026. The explosion resulted in the deaths of 15 Pakistani police officers and left four others wounded.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed numerous armed and explosive attacks in recent years, with Islamabad consistently expressing concern over militant activities along the Durand Line border.

Meanwhile, the Taliban administration has yet to issue an official response to the summoning of its representative. Previously, Pakistani officials had urged the Taliban to prevent the use of Afghan territory for threatening the security of neighboring countries—a matter that has repeatedly raised questions and criticism regarding the Taliban’s control and accountability over militant groups.
