Trump Seeks to End War with Iran Ahead of China Visit, Reports The Atlantic

The American magazine The Atlantic has reported that Donald Trump, President of the United States, is trying to end the ongoing war with Iran before his scheduled trip to Beijing. According to the report, he is concerned about the prolonged conflict and does not want to be drawn into a protracted war in the Middle East.

The report states that Trump considers the war more difficult and longer than initially anticipated. Meanwhile, members of his party are cautiously monitoring the domestic repercussions of the continued war, including rising fuel prices and declining presidential popularity.

The Atlantic, citing five of Trump’s foreign policy aides and advisors, wrote that he is in a sensitive position. According to these sources, the U.S. president believes he can present any potential agreement as a political achievement to the public.

Elsewhere in the report, it is mentioned that Washington is awaiting Iran’s response to its latest proposal; a one-page memorandum of understanding, which, according to The Atlantic, resembles more of a ceasefire extension than a comprehensive treaty to end the conflict.

The report also notes that Trump, the author of “The Art of the Deal,” has so far been unable to persuade Iran to come to the negotiating table—a development that could also overshadow his planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
