Efforts Underway to Complete Remaining 12 Kilometers of Sheikh Abunasr Farahi Port Road

The Directorate of Information and Culture of Farah has announced that Rahimullah Mahmood, the Deputy Governor appointed by the Taliban in this province, held a meeting and discussions with a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran led by Mir Mohammad Moudi, Head of the Road and Urban Development Department of Birjand province, regarding the completion of the remaining sections of the Sheikh Abunasr Farahi port road.

According to the Directorate, the Iranian delegation stated that the purpose of their visit was to review the unfinished areas of the project and coordinate efforts to accelerate the work process. The delegation added that their trip was conducted under the guidance of Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and the Birjand provincial administration.

The Deputy Governor of Farah welcomed the Iranian delegation and emphasized the need to complete the remaining 12 kilometers of the second phase of the project as soon as possible. He also called for speeding up work on the 9 kilometers already completed of the second phase and the reconstruction of the damaged sections of the first phase of the road.

Rahimullah Mahmood also stressed the importance of preparing a specific timeline for project progress and ensuring the timely supply of necessary materials, including diesel, bitumen, and financial resources, to prevent further delays. In recent years, some infrastructure projects in the country have faced slow progress due to lack of transparency and resource shortages; therefore, setting an accurate schedule and accountability for project advancement is a serious demand of local residents.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mir Mohammad Moudi stated that he will travel to Kabul to follow up on the matter and hold talks with relevant officials to facilitate the acceleration of work and resolve outstanding issues.

The Sheikh Abunasr Farahi port is considered one of the important transit projects in western Afghanistan, and its completion could significantly contribute to expanding trade and strengthening regional connectivity.
