Afghan Red Crescent Discusses Expansion of Humanitarian Aid with UK Special Envoy

The head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society met with the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for Afghanistan to discuss expanding humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and returning migrants. During the meeting, both parties emphasized the continuation and development of support for vulnerable families across the country.
According to a statement released on the Afghan Red Crescent’s Facebook page, Shahabuddin Dilawar met with Richard Lindsay at his office, where they exchanged views on addressing the situation of internally displaced persons, returnees from neighboring countries, and ways to enhance humanitarian aid. Dilawar expressed gratitude for the UK’s previous assistance and provided information about the organization’s ongoing activities.
He noted that mental health treatment and care centers are currently operational in seven zones across the country. Approximately 1,500 male and female patients are receiving therapy at these centers, with a similar number receiving health services at their homes.
The head of the Red Crescent also announced that a specialized hospital for children with congenital heart defects will soon be inaugurated in Kabul. It is expected that up to 2,000 children will undergo surgical procedures at this center annually.
During the meeting, Dilawar stressed the need to increase aid to meet the basic needs of returning migrants and displaced families who have been forced to leave their main areas in recent years due to insecurity, natural disasters, and economic challenges.
Meanwhile, the UK Special Representative appreciated the humanitarian work of the Afghan Red Crescent and assured continued cooperation. He stated that UK humanitarian aid will soon be delivered to the organization through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
