Taliban Court Publicly Lashes 42 People Across Three Provinces

The Taliban Supreme Court has announced that 42 individuals were publicly lashed on various charges in the provinces of Farah, Jawzjan, and Balkh. According to statements released on Saturday, April 17, these punishments were carried out in Bala Buluk district of Farah, Shiberghan city, and Balkh district. The number of lashes administered to each person ranged from 20 to 39.
The statements indicated that 14 people were punished in Farah, 27 in Jawzjan, and one in Balkh. The charges included homosexual relations, drinking and trading alcoholic beverages, mistreating parents, and extramarital affairs.
According to released information, the Taliban Primary Court in Balkh sentenced one individual, in addition to lashes, to two years of imprisonment. This person was publicly punished in the presence of local officials on the charge of an extramarital affair.
