Floods in Nangarhar Damage Thousands of Acres of Farmland and Destroy Infrastructure

The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in Nangarhar has announced that recent rainfall and ensuing floods have caused extensive financial damage in the province. According to information from this department, thousands of acres of farmland have been destroyed, hundreds of heads of livestock and thousands of poultry have perished.
Officials from the department state that the floods have also destroyed hundreds of fruit-bearing trees and a number of irrigation infrastructure facilities, which play a crucial role in supplying water to agricultural areas. Damage to these infrastructures could pose challenges to farmers’ cultivation activities in upcoming seasons.
Meanwhile, the Nangarhar Department of Education has reported that the buildings of 113 schools and educational management offices in the provincial center and districts have been damaged. According to this department, the destruction of these educational centers has affected the schooling of thousands of students.
Despite reports of widespread financial damage, no accurate figures regarding possible human casualties have been released. The lack of transparent information in this regard has caused concern among residents.
Local officials and affected farmers have called on aid organizations and the Taliban administration to provide urgent assistance and take immediate action to rebuild irrigation systems and compensate for damages. Many residents warn that delays in response will worsen the economic consequences of this natural disaster on farming families’ livelihoods.
