Afghanistan Builds 1,500 New Telecom Sites in Past Four Years

The Taliban’s Economic Deputy Office has announced that over the past four years, 1,500 new telecommunications sites have been established across the country. According to this body, out of the total sites, 300 were constructed by the ATRA administration while the remaining 1,200 were built by private companies.
Based on the information provided, the cost to build each telecom site is estimated at around 8 million Afghanis. These projects have extended telecommunications coverage to 30 districts, several major highways, and some border areas.
The expansion of telecommunications infrastructure in a country like Afghanistan, which has challenging geography and dispersed populations, represents a fundamental need for developing communication and access to digital services. However, there have been no further details on how equitably these sites are distributed or the practical impact on the quality of telecom services.
