Residents of Yawan District Complain of Chronic Staff Absence at Local Clinic

Residents of Yawan district in Badakhshan province report a severe shortage of nurses and doctors at the district clinic, with many patients leaving without receiving medical care. They say health officials are often absent even in emergency situations.
On Thursday, March 25, residents said that most of the time when they visit this facility, no doctors or nurses are available. This situation has caused serious concern among families, especially in urgent and life-threatening cases.
One Yawan resident stated, “Even children are brought to this center unconscious, but at night there is only a guard present.” He added that the weakness in management and oversight at this health facility is clearly evident, and public complaints are not effectively addressed.
The Yawan clinic is the sole medical center for thousands of residents in this mountainous district, which due to its geographic location and distance from the provincial center, makes quick access to other health facilities difficult. Residents warn that continuing this situation could have irreversible consequences for patients.
They have called on the Taliban administration and responsible health authorities to strengthen this center by deploying specialist doctors from the provincial capital to Yawan and enforcing strict supervision to prevent staff absenteeism. They believe providing primary healthcare is a fundamental duty of the Taliban administration, and neglecting this sector puts the lives of people in remote areas at risk.
