NATO Withdraws All Forces from Iraq, Transfers Them to Europe Amid Rising Tensions

The NATO military alliance has announced the withdrawal of all forces involved in its mission in Iraq, relocating them to Europe due to escalating tensions and security concerns. This decision comes amid growing worries about the security situation in certain areas of Iraq.

According to a BBC report, NATO’s mission in Iraq has been non-combat in nature, focusing primarily on advising and assisting in the development of sustainable and effective security institutions and forces. The alliance emphasized that it has not participated in combat operations, with its role limited to support and training.

In a statement, NATO added that after the transfer of forces, its mission activities will continue from the organization’s command center in Naples, Italy. The alliance noted that coordination to maintain cooperation with Iraqi security forces will be conducted through this center.

Alexandros Grigoriadis, the senior commander of NATO allied forces in Europe, expressed gratitude to Iraqi officials and the alliance’s partners for their cooperation during the withdrawal process. He stated that the relocation of NATO personnel from Iraq was carried out safely with the support of the Republic of Iraq and the alliance’s partners.
