Pakistan Says Next Talks with Taliban to Be Held in Turkey

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, has welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Islamabad and the Taliban in Doha, announcing that the next round of talks between the two sides will be hosted by Turkey.

In a statement on social media platform X on Sunday 27 Mehr (October 20), Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan is awaiting the establishment of a specific monitoring mechanism to assess the Taliban’s commitments—commitments aimed at preventing militant groups from operating on Afghan soil against Pakistan’s security.

He added that this mechanism must hold the Taliban accountable for security threats emanating from Afghanistan toward Pakistan. Dar also warned that failure in this regard could result in further human casualties on both sides of the border.

Under the announced agreement, the Taliban have pledged not to support groups opposing the Pakistani government. The deal was brokered with the mediation of Qatar and Turkey.

While the agreement is seen as a preliminary step toward reducing violence along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border, its effectiveness depends on the Taliban’s adherence to their commitments—a factor that remains in doubt due to the group’s murky past and track record of violations.
