Escalation of Clashes Along Durand Line; Heavy Casualty Claims by Pakistan and Taliban

Pakistan’s Information Minister announced that in recent attacks against Taliban forces, 527 militants were killed and 755 others wounded. He stated these operations were launched in response to Taliban military movements and are ongoing.
On Friday, March 5, Atallah Tarar said that in these attacks, 237 Taliban security posts were destroyed and 38 others were captured and then demolished. He also claimed that 205 Taliban tanks were destroyed in the clashes.
Conversely, the Taliban’s defense ministry claimed that over 100 Pakistani soldiers were killed in counterattacks within the past 24 hours. The Taliban also said that Pakistani forces targeted several districts in Khost province on Friday night.
Pakistani security officials confirmed that 26 sites inside Afghanistan were targeted in the country’s airstrikes. However, no independent details about civilian casualties or damage have been released.
Military clashes between the two sides have continued for over a week, with tensions rising along the Durand Line. The ongoing situation raises concerns about the security of residents in border areas and its humanitarian consequences, an issue the Taliban administration has yet to provide clear explanations on regarding measures to prevent harm to civilians.
