WFP Distributes Nutritious Biscuits to 700,000 Afghan Schoolchildren

On the eve of World Food Day, the World Food Programme (WFP) has announced the start of a campaign to distribute nutritious biscuits to 700,000 schoolchildren across Afghanistan. The biscuits are produced through a local factory overseen by the organization, which is primarily staffed by women.

The main goal of this initiative is to support healthier nutrition for children and to enhance their mental focus and learning capacity. WFP officials have stated that these biscuits will help improve students’ educational outcomes.

At the same time, United Nations-affiliated agencies have warned that a large number of Afghan women and children are at risk of severe malnutrition. According to these organizations, at least 2.3 million women and children in Afghanistan are in urgent need of food assistance.

Alarming reports also highlight the dire state of nutrition in hospitals across several provinces. In Badakhshan province, local health sources report that one child dies from malnutrition every three days.

Despite these ongoing crises, the Taliban administration has failed to effectively support the country’s health and nutritional infrastructure. The continuation of current conditions threatens to exacerbate food insecurity among the children—the future of Afghanistan.
